Dental implants are ideal for replacing the odd missing tooth to restore the natural look and feel of the mouth. But what about when an entire set is missing? Ageing, disease and physical impacts can all lead to losing multiple teeth, and the functional and emotional damage can be significant.
Here at St Faiths we have introduced All-on-4 implants to replace an entire set of teeth with minimal surgery, using just four titanium implants.
All-on-4 is a remarkable innovation that is changing the world of dental implants and the whole innovative procedure only consists of a few periodic appointments, beginning with a temporary bridge in the first appointment which lets the patient begin living without dentures from day one.
Our superb oral surgery team is led by our Specialist oral surgeon Richard Simons, he is joined by Gerry Van Deventer and Richard Umasuthan. This highly experienced team have over 60 years experience between them.
They have extensive knowledge and skill in restoring smiles and have expertly fitted dental implants for many patients.
At your first appointment 4 screws will be inserted into the jawbone, an abutment is then fastened to the top of each one. The jawbone will then needs some time to heal.
Once the jawbone has healed after around five months, the implants are secure. Despite this seemingly large amount of time most people return to work after just a day or two, and the process is sped up by the implants being inserted at an angle which reduces the amount of bone grafting needed in the procedure.
The implants are designed to look completely natural, blend in with any existing teeth and even have the option of being upgraded to more advanced ceramic enhancements further down the line.
Not everyone is necessarily suited to All-on-4 implants. If you have experienced heavy damage to your jawbones and gums due to smoking or an illness your jaw may not be strong enough to support the implants.
The best way to determine this is to speak to us. Book an appointment with us and we’ll be happy to sit down with you, chat things through, and determine whether we can go through with it.
If you are worried by the procedure we are able to carry much of the work out under sedation.
“Absolutely brilliant, the staff are so nice and friendly they put me at ease from the word go,I’m a nervous patient but would highly recommend St Faiths and would use them again if needed.”
We are now obliged to carry out all NHS treatment on under 12’s using inhalation sedation only.
This limits the types of treatment that we may be able to carry out on NHS contract, and regrettably we cannot guarantee that we will be able to complete all of the treatment you have been referred for.
We remain compliant with National ‘IACSD’ sedation guidelines which allow us the clinical freedom to use -where necessary -alternative ‘advanced’ sedation techniques on a non- NHS (private) basis.
If it looks like treatment will not be successful under ‘basic’ sedation, the options will be to refer you onward to Community Dental Service or Hospital (where facilities allow) or back to your own dentist for the treatment to be attempted under local anasethetic, or to discuss re-referral on a private basis.
We wish to make clear that this situation is purely as a result of NHS commissioning and completely beyond our control, but assure you of our best efforts in continuing to provide high standards in NHS treatment where possible.
